Second is the autoregressive component. This captures how past values influence the present. The parameter p controls how many lagged observations are used and how much persistence the process exhibits.

Third is the moving average component. This describes how past shocks continue to affect the system. The parameter qdetermines how many previous disturbances are remembered and how quickly they are absorbed.

Finally, the model assumes new information arrives as random innovations with some variance. Put together, ARIMA(p,d,q) first removes non-stationarity, then models the remaining structure through persistence and shock propagation.
